An individualized education program (IEP) is a written document for a child with a disability that describes the child’s educational program. The IEP must be in effect prior to the child receiving special education services. The purpose of an individualized education program (IEP) is to provide a plan designed to meet the educational needs of the child with a disability and to describe the resources needed to meet the child’s educational needs. The IEP is developed, reviewed, and revised in accordance with Iowa’s Administrative Rules of Special Education.
The IEP includes
- A statement of the child’s present levels of academic achievement and functional performance [41.320(1)a]
- A statement of measurable annual goals including academic and functional goals [41.320(1)b]
- A description of how progress toward meeting the annual goals will be measured and when periodic reports on the progress the student is making toward meeting the annual goals will be provided [41.320(1)d]
- A statement of the special education and related services and supplementary aids and services provided to the student [41.320(1)c
