Instructional examples aligned to ISTE standards now available

Are you familiar with the International Society for Technology Education (ISTE) Standards for Students released in 2016?  The focus of the standards has shifted from the basic skills of learning how to use the computer to “Transformative learning with technology”.   The first set of standards released in 1998 were focused on teaching students how to use the computer. The 2016 standards were developed for learners whose environment is technology rich and provides guidance on purposeful and thoughtful integration of technology. What is really exciting is that since the standards are embedded in learning, not only do they support students in mastering the Iowa Core, they support and engage students in the important skills of Communication, Collaboration, Creativity and Critical Thinking (4Cs).  The Central Rivers AEA instructional technology team created instructional examples of the alignment between the 4Cs and the 2016 ISTE Standards.  For example, Communication and ISTE Standard #6 align well  The instructional task of writing for purpose and audience can be met through the use of blogging tools such as EduBlog or Blogger.  Our team has curated a video series from the Teaching Channel titled Taking a Leap into Blogging to support this connection.  For more ideas and examples of connections between the ISTE Standards and the 4Cs, check out our Central Rivers AEA Instructional Technologist Inspire page on Central Rivers AEA website.
